The chase
If your life was on fire,
I couldn't put you out
if you didn't want me to.
I could try and I'd burn my fingers,
Burn my fingers until I had scars from you.
Then you'd be scared that I couldn't love you,
But some things should never be assumed.
My fingerprints are always there.
I'm picking at the scabs of this love.
It's a little painful you know,
But I'm always there.
I could try and try and I'd lose my breath,
Running quicker until I caught up with you.
But you'd keep moving so I couldn't receive you,
But they say some things should never be assumed.
One day you'll waiver in a valley,
Your eyes down and I'd stay out in the wilderness.
Looking to ask you, ask you about the wedge your driving
Between us, your driving me to ruin, really.
I could try to tame your fire but your so brightly shining.
I could try to slow your motion but your ever turning to your own timing.
I could try to ask you but you won't speak to me without lying.
I could try to give you up but you are the only thing I'm pining for.
And it is said that one should never assume but when I'm chasing you,
You leave me clues like you want me to catch you and I feel you want me too.
I cry out and tell the stars about me torment.
Listening hard, you heard it too.
When you turned back to kindle the fire in my chest,
You only burned yourself on the embers I left for you,
Until you saw me glowing on the hills, a few miles away,
Then you began to sway as you heard my music and you,
Began to move and stride as I turned to run and hide.
